Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (www.iges.or.jp/en)

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) was established in 1998 through an initiative of the Government of Japan. The IGES undertakes innovative policy development and strategic research on environmental measures, reflecting the results of research in political decision making on sustainable development both in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. Since April 2012, the IGES has carried out practical and innovative research as a public interest incorporated foundation.

The IGES operates as an agent for change by facilitating the transition to a sustainable society and by improving human well-being. One of its main areas of research is low-carbon infrastructure and the provision of practical solutions that result in low-carbon technology innovation and transfer, resource circulation, and sustainable production and consumption.

The institute works together with national governments, local authorities, international organisations, research institutes, businesses, NGOs and local communities to implement the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
